Perhaps this has been linked here before; I haven't seen it, so I thought I'd point out this recently posted half-hour interview where Garcia was asked a bunch of questions in October 1986.
Many interesting things here - he's asked about audience tapers ("OK with me!" he says), possibly releasing older shows (he says he's just embarrassed to hear them), whether they'll play more with Dylan in 1987 (he'd love to), whether they'll change the setlist format (he artfully dodges the question), whether they'll do more acoustic shows (the band's not very enthusiastic), and a very interesting part where he's asked about a list of old songs whether the Dead will do them again, including Here Comes Sunshine (no, no, no, and no; and he gives various reasons). And other things, too.
At the end, he thoughtfully surveys a wall of the envelope artwork that deadheads had sent in...

thanks for the link. Nice to have a long interview with jerry without the typical naive interviewer.

Love it, never seen that. My favorite line is where he talked about his pre coma memories..."I can't remember what I can't remember so I don't really care". Thanks for linking that.

Happy, invested Jerry; nice interview that I don't recall seeing (there is the hr long PBS special from the next yr, I think, that we have talked about, but this is not that one...I just know I saw one in ~ 87 that was quite good--almost "an American Masters" format sort...? Sorry, can't recall). It is had to imagine he's only in his early 40s at the time of this interview...makes me look absolutely healthy!

Thx.

absolutely Tell! Spot on! The amount he aged is unreal, drugs, bad diet, whatever, still blows my mind how much older he looked than he was. Even in his prime really when he looked healthy he looked older. Abnd let's not even get started on Pigpen. To look and sound like that in your early twentys?

Awesome, thanks for the heads up. Greatly enjoyed this one today. Nice quote about the art of sidestepping in there. Though as Tell said, Jerry is invested in this interview, one really gets the sense of how he would abdicate all responsibility in making leadership decisions. A blessing and a curse rolled up in one, it seems.
